Try using the -b option to e2fsck to specify a backup superblock
(see e2fsck(8) for details). Oh, and the suggestion to get a newer e2fsck is
probably a good one anyway: my Debian box has 1.12 (9-Jul-98), and there
are probably newer versions than that around..
