I suspect Erik's shmfs (aka posix shared mem patch) will provide support for such needs. But the only URL I have for Erik's stuff (<http://www.npwt.net/~ebiederm/files/>) is down....
At any rate, it was supposed to be expected to :) make it into 2.3.
