I had got similar problem ... It was casued by "unofficial" PCI clock
using with UDMA. UDMA is VERY PCI clock speed, cable goodness etc etc
sensitive according my experiences. (But using PIO modes can produce
straneg things to with some broken cable, chipsets ...)
