I've been doing a bit more testing, and I can also get the below message to happen if I put `make oldconfig` into a loop with 2.2.5. It takes from 2-4 iterations for this to happen. I can get this message to appear on two different machines running 2.2.6, the things in common with these machines are egcs-1.1.2, glibc-2.1pre1 and binutils-2.9.1.0.23. I'm trying a compile right now with gcc-2.7.2.3, we'll see if that makes a difference.

Still no clue with the wtmp/utmp tty weirdness I reported with 2.2.6, though.
