Neither... channel can have two IDE devices, most controllers have two channels. You can have multiple controllers.

I don't know about all of them... I think there is a driver limit of 16 or so in 2.2.x and 8 in 2.0.x. I think it should work... I think Mark Lord has done this and worse.
