Why my schools server (running redhat 5.2) kernels 2.2.x doesn't work, I have tried so many times to get it work but no.. Example I try to run "passwd" program and I got this(same with when running lilo):
(current) UNIX password: New UNIX password: Retype new UNIX password: Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000028 current->tss.cr3 = 0ef45000, %cr3 = 0ef45000 *pde = 00000000 Oops: 0000 CPU: 0 EIP: 0010:[<c0132ebe>] EFLAGS: 00010296 eax: cfb90004 ebx: cfcd4a40 ecx: 00000000 edx: 00000001 esi: cfcd49e0 edi: 0000ffff ebp: bfff0000 esp: cfefbf70 ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018 Process passwd (pid: 263, process nr: 5, stackpage=cfefb000) Stack: 0000ffff bfff0000 cf313360 ced81760 c013314a cfcd4a40 00000000 00000000 00000000 bffffa34 c0124cd2 00000000 ffffffff 00000000 00000000 00000000 00000000 cfefa000 c0124ce7 00000000 c0108a8c 400362cc 4002e0d8 400362cc Call Trace: [<c013314a>] [<c0124cd2>] [<c0124ce7>] [<c0108a8c>] Code: 8b 74 91 24 f6 43 2c 01 74 09 53 e8 52 ff ff ff 83 c4 04 80 Segmentation fault
------------------------ And the weird thing is that the kernels 2.0.x runs perfectly. So where I'm doing wrong, can anybody help me with this? My computer is one processor pentium-II(Intel 350Mhz), Adaptec 2940 UW 40Mbit/s scsi-controller and memory in computer has 256Mb.
ps. I'm not on the kernel mailing list so please if you answer this message send your answer directly to me (e-mail: jarkkoha@dlc.fi). Thanks for your help!
