I have the guard set and I see this also. I have a USR 56k
external with pppd 2.3pl4 and linux 2.0.36. If I read a patch file with
pine, or try to cat a file that has the +++ in it, my connection will hang
(i can ^] the telnet session and start another with no ill affect).
