yeah, but i need setup scripts that work for both 2.0 and 2.2.
And it breaks things diald a bit, which exec ifconfig and
then route.

ifconfig then route is pretty close to a UNIX standard, why
change it? (or at least a syscall to choose between old and new
behaviours).
