There is a table in bttv.c, copy entry 3 to the end of the table for your card, and then you can alter it to indicate how your board is wired. You may want to join the video4linux list (see http://roadrunner.swansea.linux.org.uk/v4l.shtml)
bottom line: supporting your card directly with mute the right way around is a table filling exercise
