I had/have similar problems with lp[dr], but if you run the printcap filter directly on what you want to print and redirect it to /dev/lp0, it works 100% of the times (ie: cat a.ps|deskjet-ps > /dev/lp0) Why? No clue.. I guess lpd is kinda lazy :)
