This is off-topic but I cannot resist. My short answer is, yes, Linus is a hero but the proviso is that he's only a hero to people like us. Actually, the Linux world is full of heroes - I'd count Jon Maddog Hall, David Miller, Alan Cox, Erik Troan, Jay Estabrook, Jim Paradis and Stephen Tweedie in my list. Even that is insulting to the many folks who contribute a lot of time and energy (for example the Lyx developers)...
