People are ignoring the fact that this has absolutely nothing to do with the kernel.
Go change yer /bin/bash (or /lib/libc.so.*, if you want perror to output the "custom" core dump etc. messages for all programs)...
Even if you were talking about changing the messages that the kernel logs via printk(), nothing is stopping you from editing the kernel source and recompiling. -- Elliot http://www.redhat.com/ Chicken Little was right.
