Just a question, what is 'taper`. If it is like tar, did you remember
to use use some command-line switch to remain on the same file system?
If not, once you try to "backup" the /proc file-system you will run into
/proc/kcore.... get into an infinite loop, and require the 3-finger salute.

cd /
tar -clf /tmp/foo.tar .
|____ need this for tar
