Have you ever had a SunOS box get somewhat scrambled and dump its memory image over / - sometimes Id be happier with an external log. Also the external log is a timed event log not a snapshot, so you tend to see things like
-SMP- kicking CPU CPU#1 Ouch! CPU#1 Trying to go 32bit CPU#1 fault - I give up
