What is less obvious is that you can have your swap in two different modes: immediate and over-commitment. I'd recommend the latter. Do 'man swapon', you'll learn everything you need to know. It is likely, that you have to scsi controllers in your machine (Bus 0 and Bus1). We never did it, but performance should improve if your swap drive sits on a separate bus.
