SubjectRe: [PATCH] DES LOOP Support
Nicholas J. Leon:

<DES patch deleted>

Yes. When putting loop support into the kernel, I rejected the
idea of adding the DES routines. It would give legal problems in
several countries. With the present loop support we even got protests
that adding hooks where one might attach encryption routines might be
illegal in the USA, but ignored these so far - the evidence is too slim.
But putting actual DES routines in is no doubt a bad idea.
On the one hand they are almost unuseably slow, and on the other
hand it is asking for trouble.

You could put your patch up for ftp someplace, preferably outside the USA.
What about adding a reasonably good and reasonably fast encryption?

Andries
