Is this related?
chinacat:/# mount -t iso9660 /dev/hdb1 /cdrom mount: block device /dev/hdb1 is write-protected, mounting read-only attempt to access beyond end of device 03:41: rw=0, want=33, limit=0 isofs_read_super: bread failed, dev 03:41 iso_blknum 16 mount: wrong fs type or bad superblock on /dev/hdb1
isofs is a module, and the cd is an ATAPI type, and works under 1.2 and 1.3.75.
